Midland Surveying, Inc. Completes Recent Iowa NRCS Surveys, Maintains Long-Term Contract

In September 2008, Midland Surveying, Inc. was chosen by qualifications-based selection to provide surveying services for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Omaha District. Today, Midland Surveying holds two (2) active contracts with the Omaha District, providing a range of surveying services throughout the Continental United States, Alaska and Hawaii.

The contract negotiated in 2008 was primarily for boundary, topographic and LiDAR surveying services with four optional renewal years. Since the contract was awarded, 25 delivery orders have been issued and 20 tasks are 100% complete. All projects have been delivered within contract budget and prior to deadline. Ten (10) delivery orders have been issued for Ft. Carson in Colorado and others have been for various locations in Washington State, North Dakota, Montana, Nebraska and Kansas.

In 2009, Midland Surveying, Inc. was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District to complete airport obstruction surveys at Army Airfields (AAFs) throughout the United States. To date, nine (9) delivery orders have been awarded to Midland Surveying. In addition to establishing and evaluating existing horizontal and vertical control, field crews use a combination of RTK GPS and conventional data collection methods to locate potential obstructions within the airfield perimeter, including all paved surfaces, buildings, control towers, navigation aids, airfield striping and other features which may affect an aircraft’s approach to the airfield.

Obstruction surveys have been completed at Felker AAF in Virginia, Sherman AAF and Marshall AAF in Kansas and Biggs AAF in Texas. Projects are near completion at Ft. Rucker, Alabama and Butts AAF in Colorado.

In addition, numerous airport obstruction projects have been performed for National Guard Airports, in conjunction with the USACE, Omaha District Contract. Obstruction surveys have been performed in Grayling, Michigan; Fort Richardson, Alaska; Los Alamitos, California; Fort Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania; Picacho, Arizona; and numerous other locations.

Since 2005, the Iowa Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) has consecutively selected Midland Surveying, Inc. by qualification based selection to complete wetland reserve easement surveys. By earning this number one (1) ranking in qualifications, Midland is contracted first for any projects within the county districts specified in our proposed area. Contract award in 2010 was the fourth renewal of similar contracts between Midland Surveying and Iowa NRCS.

Most recently, Midland Surveying was awarded four (4) contracts in Ringgold County and three (3) contracts in Union County through a solicitation in October 2011. All seven (7) contracts, totaling more than 800 acres, were completed within budget and prior to the November 15th deadline.

The Ministry Center Receives Funds from Midland and Nodaway County Abstract

Employees of Midland Surveying, Midland GIS Solutions and Nodaway County Abstract recently presented donations to The Ministry Center. The employees contributed through payroll deductions which were matched by their employer. Norma Eckerson and David Weichinger accepted the checks for The Ministry Center and spoke to the group about the continuing need in Nodaway County. The center is staffed 100 percent by volunteers and provides food and clothing to families in Nodaway County. McAdams Obtains Professional Land Surveyor license in Nebraska

Curtis McAdams, PLS of Midland Surveying, Inc. in Maryville and St. Joseph, Missouri recently passed examination by the Nebraska Board of Examiners for Land Surveyors to obtain his Professional Survey License (PLS). Already a PLS in Missouri, McAdams has nearly 20 years of experience as a land surveyor and is currently an Owner and Project Surveyor for the Midland Surveying office in St. Joseph. Recent projects that he has overseen include boundary surveys for the United States Fish and Wildlife service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and numerous airport obstruction surveys for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Army Airfields throughout the United States.

Curtis is one of six Professionally Licensed Surveyors at Midland Surveying, Inc. He joins Owner John Teale, PLS as a licensed surveyor in Nebraska. Obtaining licensure to become a Professional Land Surveyor takes years of experience and training that ultimately culminates in one final exam, as administered by the State Board that oversees the practice of land surveying. As a PLS in Missouri and Nebraska, McAdams is authorized to conduct boundary surveys and sign survey plats there, amongst other duties. Curtis McAdams lives in Maryville, MO with his wife and two children.

Midland Surveying Volunteers Services for Statewide Height Modernization

Midland Surveying, Inc volunteered its services in a statewide Height Modernization Survey of Missouri. The survey was part of “Governor's, Legislators' and Judges' Day”, August 19th and 21st, at the 2010 Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

This special event took place in most Missouri counties and was performed by surveyors occupying benchmarks with their GPS receivers. Surveyors across Missouri started their GPS receivers at the same instant as a state official started a GPS receiver at the state Fairgrounds. Data was continuously collected for six hours. Midland Surveying, Inc. has established a long-standing, working relationship with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and was recently selected to provide general surveying services for Districts 1 and 4 and photogrammetric services statewide. The 3-year, general services agreement with MoDOT is a testament to past performance on similar contracts with MoDOT and other state and federal agencies.

Midland Surveying was selected by MoDOT in 2009 and 2007 to perform photogrammetric services statewide. This followed consecutive selections in 2002, 2004 and 2006 for two-year, on-call contracts with MoDOT to perform photogrammetric services statewide. View full article.

The National Archives Museum in Kansas City, MO is currently featuring a gallery of maps from collections of the Missouri State Archives and the National Archives at Kansas City. The “Mapping Missouri” exhibit has been open to the public since February 9th and will remain open through May 29th. Included in the exhibit is the historical survey of McKissick’s Island in Atchison County, Missouri. A border dispute between the state of Missouri and Nebraska developed when the flood of 1867 changed the flow of the Missouri River in far northwest Missouri. In 1999, Midland Surveying, Inc. was selected to retrace the long-time disputed boundary. That survey resulted in the Missouri-Nebraska Compact. View full article.

In the spring of 2009, Midland Surveying, Inc. of Maryville and St. Joseph, Missouri was selected as a sub-consultant to collect nearly 550 LiDAR checkpoints for Rainwater Basin, located in South Central Nebraska and North Central Kansas. Midland Surveying, Inc. project area consisted of 14 counties, 76 miles by 152 miles.
